Sensei for those who mastered the craft of running white water. For those who often redefine the craft itself by drawing lines most of us don’t even see. Forget pushing the limits; just keeping up with them is becoming very calculated by the sheer risk exposure the athletes are willing to take. That is exactly how we approached the design of the Sensei skirt. Through careful observation and learning we fine-tuned every detail of this skirt to create the perfect bond between you and your boat.
- Optimized rand design provides the perfect equilibrium of stretch and hold. Its hollow core reduces weight and provides enough flexibility to an otherwise very durable and UV resistant EPDM rubber profile.
- StoneBase 4.0 Delta e.prene on the periphery of the skirts serves as an abrasion-resistant barrier. Delta foam is stiffer to support the durability of the Stone nylon laminated on top.
- To enhance the durability of the edges of the skirt even further we use special coating called the Tedate, named after the shields of the ancient Japanese warriors. The coating makes that part of the skirt virtually indestructible.
- The center of the skirt is made from DuraBase 4.0 Alpha. The Dura nylon is also abrasion resistant but maintains more stretch thanks to its unique construction. Alpha foam has a higher stretch that further enhances the ability of the skirt to absorb a massive amount of impact on both explosion and implosion.
- Silicon coating is applied on the bottom of the skirt to support the rand in critical straight flat sections of the cockpit.
- The bright yellow loop is reinforced with tubing for better grip and reinforced T-bar won’t let your hand slip when you need to get out.
- The soft and stretchy neoprene waist tunnel allows you to breathe freely. It is finished with a conical strip with a smooth skin on the inside to keep the tunnel in place.
Choosing & using
When choosing a whitewater spraydeck, consider the difficulty of the rivers you’ll paddle and the fit of the skirt. Bungee rims offer a reliable seal with a looser fit, ideal for beginner and intermediate paddlers, while rand skirts provide a tighter, more secure seal for big water and challenging conditions. Both designs are made to grip kayak rims firmly, handle strong rapids, and allow quick release via the pull loop. To ensure proper performance and comfort, select a skirt that matches your cockpit size and torso, and if the neoprene feels tight when fitting, soaking it in water can improve stretchability for easier application.
Storage and maintenance
DuoBase 3.0 Alpha | DuraBase 4.0 Alpha
Neoprene is an impressionable fabric that should be cared for after each use and prepared correctly for long term storage. Dirt and grime can rub and cause abrasions over time so it is best to rinse off between uses. When the neoprene is going to be stored over a longer period of time use a mild detergent and clean thoroughly. Most importantly though make sure that the neoprene is fully dried before storage to prevent possible long term issues and odours. Finally, do not hang with clamps or fold when not in use as this can reduce the elasticity of the material.
